In 2008, Vodacom initiated Yebo Yethu as part of its BBBEE transaction. And at the beginning of next month, holders of shares in Yebo Yethu will finally be able to trade them. Let’s take a closer look at Yebo Yethu shares and when you can start trading them…



Yebo Yethu Limited is a public company, “which owns 3.44% of Vodacom SA,” says Vodacom. It is part of Vodacom’s broad based black economic empowerment transaction.

Yebo Yethu was the part of the transaction “which gave the black public an opportunity to participate in the deal,” says ujuh. “About 100,000 investors, black people and groups responded to the Vodacom invitation” to buy shares in Yebo Yethu.

By buying shares in Yebo Yethu, you can benefit from the performance of Vodacom SA.

Under the terms of the deal, only African, coloured or Indian people can buy Yebo Yethu shares, the Yebo Yethu’s website explains.

Under the scheme, you must hold the shares for five years before you can sell them. And at the beginning of February, you will be able to sell you shares or buy more.

To buy more shares or to sell your shares, Yebo Yethu encourages use of their trading platform. But you can trade them elsewhere by notifying them.

How to trade your Yebo Yethu shares

To trade on the Yebo Yethu trading platform, you need to verify your shareholding.

To do this, you need to ensure your details are correct with Yebo Yethu. You can check how to do this on Yebo Yethu’s website.

And if you didn’t buy any shares in Yebo Yethu back in 2008, at the beginning of February you will be able to. Just check out Yebo Yethu’s website to see how to register.

Trading of Yebo Yethu share will begin at 9am on 3 February 2014.
