Aiden Sookdin, Author, The Minimum Wage Millionaire, 23 Feb. 2016
Snake farming is one of the most profitable businesses one can start this year, considering the high prices of snake venom. Since venom is used on a large scale in the pharmaceutical and beauty/cosmetics industries, it is sold for incredibly high prices. One gram of high quality venom can cost as much as R25,000!
Snake farming is a business for courageous, thrill-seeking entrepreneurs. Although many people fear these creatures, as they are believed to be extremely dangerous, snakes are actually rather shy animals, which do not attack unless they feel threatened in some way.
Why should you consider starting a snake farm? Because this type of business has become increasingly profitable. Considering that one single gram of venom can be sold for as much as R25,000 and that one snake produces 1.5 grams of venom annually, this means that raising 100 snakes could bring you a profit of R1.5 million in just one year!
If you are considering starting your own snake farm in 2013, here are some pointers for maximum profitability.
1. Temperature and humidity levels – Snakes require a temperature of 24-29 degrees Celsius during the day and around 21-24 degrees Celsius during the night.
2. The cages should be cleaned very often – This will ensure high productivity. The snakes need to be kept in optimum conditions, to prevent any health problems.
3. Snakes usually eat around 3-4 mice at a time and need to be fed every 3-4 weeks. Snakes usually eat live mice, but they will also settle for frozen mice. At first, snakes love to play with their pray before eating it.
